Sony VAIO computers are well-built devices. They are known for providing a superb multimedia experience because of the variety of input and output jacks on them. Occasionally, however, their USB ports may malfunction or need to be replaced.
Drivers
Verify you have device drivers by entering Device Manager. Click "Start," "Control Panel," "System and Maintenance" and "Device Manager." If your USB drivers show any punctuation marks in front of them, they need driver repair or replacement. Download and install new drivers from the manufacturer's website.
Desktop Hardware
Desktop PCs sometimes need to have the USB ports replaced. PCI cards with multiple USBs are widely available. To add an after-market USB card, power your computer off and unplug it. Take the side off your computer with the thumb screws on the back. Put on an anti-static wrist strap to avoid static discharge. Take the slot cover off the slot you are inserting the card into with a Phillips screwdriver. Insert the card and install the driver.
