Does time machine just restores the data or can recover too?

Its quite confusing as the term restore and recover are being used interchangeably every now and then. It’s a notion among people that Time Machine recovers the data if the data is being lost due to corruption of the internal hard drive. But, It’s not the case the Mac Time machine is backup tool that can only restore the data but it can not recover the data.

Restore and Recover both are different things: Restore means that the data can be brought to the same position in the same format if the data has been backed up earlier. But if the data has not been backed up the data can not be brought back by the Time Machine for bringing the data back you will need a data Mac data recovery software.

Recovery of the data means that if in case the data on the hard drive lost it may be on the internal or the external, the data can be recovered. If data lost due to corrupt hard drive, unintentional or intentional formatting of the drive. The data can be recovered even if the data is not being backed up, even if the system is not in the condition to boot.

So from this we can be sure of that the time machine can only restore the data and not recover the data. To get a bit more specific lets see...

What Time Machine machine offers

To restore data from the time machine you need to attach a external hard rive and assign the drive to time machine. It will then automatically create a back up of the system like the applications, accounts, system files, photos, movies, music, preferences, and documents.

If in case the data is deleted from the internal hard drive then you can only restore the data which was earlier backed up on the external hard drive. It only provides you the option to automatically back up your system and restore it to the last back up.

What Data recovery software offers

The data recovery software is useful even if the back up of the data is not being taken. These software will recover the data. Imagine of an odd situation if the external as well as the internal hard drive both fail at same point in time then in that case will the Time machine recover the data, I am sorry to say it will not, as it can only restore the data. But the mac data recovery software can recover the data in that case too.

So I think the above discussion was quite sufficient to state the difference between restore and recover the data. So the next time you think that your data is safe with the time machine try to memorize this article.
