NTFS stands for (new technology file system) every now and then we require to create partitions it may be because of any reason. The partition can be created in several ways. The first one obviously is using the windows CD and the entering the set up to create the partition which most of us prefer. The other way is using the DOS mode but the DOS mode can only be used in the Old systems which have The FAT file system, we can create partition now a days with NTFS file systems using the DOS mode.
Still some of us have the old PC's which have the FAT-16 or FAT-32 format, but these hard drive formats are no longer in to existence as the NTFS file system has superseded it. But what if we want to upgrade the system to the NTFS from the old file system. Is it possible for us to do? Yes, why not. This up gradation can be done from the PC itself. We will see how the up gradation can be done.
Upgrading FAT file system to the NTFS is really simple you just need to follow bellow mentioned steps and you will find the the upgraded file system in a moment.
Steps to Upgrade:
What I would recommend first is that you back up your data on to a external hard drive just as a security measure, upgrading the file system doesn't cause data loss but just in case.
1)Click start button and click on the run button
2)Type in “cmd” in the text box, and hit enter.
3)You will command prompt on the screen
4)therefore you type command "convert d: /fs:ntfs" in the command prompt, you need replace “d:” to any drive you are looking to convert to NTFS partition.
5)The next step will be to hit enter and type the drive you have entered before once again to confirm the decision
6)Once the conversion is made you will get the conversion message on the screen
So you can see that conversion from the FAT to the NTFS file system is really easy so why to use the out dated file system as the conversion is really easy to make. Remember to check the data once the process is complete in case you lost some data you have the data already backed up for you, or can use NTFS recovery software
