Is data recovery possible from scratched CD's or DVD's?

Cd’s and DVD’s are really fragile in nature and in spite of handling them carefully you can’t prevent it from the scratches. Only a few scratches here and there will turn the CD in to table coaster. But if taken care of the data can be retrieved form the damaged CD ROM and DVD’s too.

You might have noticed, most of the times the CD/DVD gets scratches either perpendicular that means outward from the center or scratches along the spiral. The scratches that are perpendicular are less harmful than the later one.

What I will recommend you do due in such a case is to
1) Clean the surface of damaged CD/DVD, with a lint free cloth. You can even use rubbing alcohol or detergent, in case grease spots found. Make sure no figer prints as well as no dust remains there on the disk.
2) Apply minimum amount tooth paste or a cream (used by opticians) on the scratched surface.
3) Rub gently from center to outwards.

If properly done you will actually find the scratches diminishing. If the scratches are not severe then you will find them disappear.

Once done with all this try to run the CD/DVD if it works fine then without wasting any time just create a copy for that data.

If all this fails then in that case you are left with no other option than of using CD DVD data recovery software. These CD DVD data recovery software companies claim that they recover data from all kinds of CD/DVD damage. Be careful while investing on to software like these.

Most of such software supports file types like the ISO 9660, ISO 9660-1999, Joliet. That makes the software useful for Mac, Linux, windows users. The recovery through the software is even easier and reliable.
