Whats new in Ubuntu 10.4 release?

The new Ubuntu 10.4 is out now, even before it had released it created a huge buzz. And why not the features people will get in this version are quite awesome. This time ubuntu has taken care of each and every user and tried to fulfill every ones need. Till now only the beta version is out. The final stable version will be out on or will be released on 29 April 2010 . So It is not advisable to install the beta version on to the production machines.

Today we will see some of the coolest features of the latest version of Ubuntu. The most attractive feature that I like was the inbuilt support for the I pod and the Iphones.

Iphone and Ipod support: As now Ubuntu is targeting the consumer market so to include a feature like this was too necessary. To try this feature I plugged in my Ipod and what I saw was kind of unexpected, it provided access to the desktop as well as the Rhytmbox.

It also provides you to drag and drop your music from the Ipod.

Gwibber: for social networking: it allows you to connect to the multiple social networking sites just from a unified window. It supports almost all the major social networking sites like:

1) Twitter

2) Facebook

3) Flickr

4) Digg

5) Status.net

6) Friends feed

Memenu: It allows you to get the updated status of the people on different networks in the same window. It allows you to set your status and post it to your social network site.

Facebook chat: Its only weeks ago that Facebook announced its support with several other applications and Ubuntu is up with the Facebook chat support. It allows you to login to the Facebook account from the Gwibbber and allows you to keep in touch with your Facebook contacts without even visiting the site

Sound control: Ubuntu 10.4 has a new improved sound control, as in the earlier version we had to install the Pulse audio to get the proper access to the volume, but in this version the sound preference panel is available by default. It is unified place to have a total control over it. You can configure your sound hardware, control your input output devices.

These were only those features which I found to be cool enough and I thought that would be useful to most of the people using Ubuntu but still there is a lot more to explore in this version. To properly explore all the features we need to wait till April end.
