Spreadsheets, who doesn't have had used it, most of us use it on regular basis. It's like a part of our life. We save a lot of useful information to the spreadsheet. I also did the same I saved the data on the spread sheet but when I tried to access it again firstly the excel file didn't open up and once I was able to open the file it contained all gibberish data. I think most of us have had faced the similar problem. So I decided to find the solution to recover the data from the corrupt xls file.
What I found in the process is that windows offers the option to recover the data, for such data corruption cases. Today I will explain the process to recover the data from corrupt xls file without using any software or any other help.
The recovery process:
What I found in the process is that windows offers the option to recover the data, for such data corruption cases. Today I will explain the process to recover the data from corrupt xls file without using any software or any other help.
The recovery process:
- Open XLS and click on to the Open button in the file menu.
- A dialog box will appear. From the dialog box click the corrupt file once you select it, navigate to the open button that is there at the bottom right of the dialog box.
- Click the drop down icon just adjacent to open button
- Open and repair option will appear in the list
- Click on the Open and repair button.
- Click on the repair button, excel will try to recover as much data as possible.
- Once done with this a copy of the file will be created
- Check the file if the data been recovered or not
- If recovered then save the new file and delete the old one.
But wait what to do if the data still not recovered, for few of us, like me, the life isn't that simple, so for people like me:
Close the excel file and repeat the process till you get the repair button once you reach at that step click on to the extract data button. It will show you the cell reference what kind of data it was not able to recover. If this the case then click on to convert to values option. Otherwise click recover formulas. Once done with this close the repair dialog box. Save the work book importantly with the different name and delete the old corrupt file
Still if you are not able to recover the file then there won't be any other option than to opt for a third party software. In most of the cases the data will be recovered by following the process mentioned above. As I got the data back, hope, so will you...
