How to restore data from Time Machine?

Mac OS X Leopard is made even more powerful by the new feature that is Time machine. Most of us are quite familiar with this as it has become a necessity these days. I haven't seen any other Operating system with such a strong back up system. Time machine is not only capable of restoring the deleted files but it fully restores your hard drive. The steps to mac data recovery from time machine are quite simple. In this post we will see the steps to recover data.

I have only heard that we can fully recover hard drive data from Time Machine but had never tried it. So to check the potential what I did was, I took the back up of my old hard drive on to the time Machine. The next step was to install a new hard drive and booted it. I formatted the new hard drive once and then started the back up procedure.

From the menu bar you need to select Utilities => Restore system. Once done with this a dialog box will open up. Select the time machine and if in case you want to restore data to an external hard drive this is then right time to connect it to the system. The next step is to select the snap shot you want to restore data from.

Once you are done with this select the drive on which you want to restore data to. Now it's time to enjoy your meal as the recovery process depends upon the volume of the hard drive and the data you are trying to back up On an average data of 170 GB will take around two and a half hour to recover.

The restoration process works in chunks it doesn't copies in a go, it copies a chunk and then there is a time gap in between to decide on to the next chunk to copy. I returned back after some time and I found all my data was restored to the new drive that I used for the “acid test” of the time machine. What I had to do was just to reboot the system. The only thing which was not recovered was the data that can be reconstructed like the cache and the indexes. For me that wasn't a big problem and I think you won't mind it either. Another thing that I found missing was, the i Tunes needed to be reauthorized. In totality I found the Time machine as a great tool for back up. But, “always there is an exception” so what if the time machine fails and the hard drive crashes at the same time. What you can do is always refer to Apple discussions and if in case you are facing any disk related problems you can try mac data recovery software

Mac File Recovery: Are You Not Able To Fix Fsck File System Inconsistencies

File inconsistencies throughout the Mac machine are mainly due to improper system shutdown, virus infection, and because the operating system. In the first place lead to inconsistencies in the referenced nodes, missing blocks, inode structure damage, corruption, super block, and more. Result of the damage system files, in most situations, the error message to stop the system boot, when your hard disk inaccessible. The best way to manage all the inconsistencies in the file system in question is running the fsck utility. This utility repair requires the user to correct a single file. However, running the fsck command does not mean the end for all the problems of file system corruption. In these cases, fsck bug, the file system becomes dismantled and data are stored on your hard disk becomes inaccessible. You can restore the data in such situations, the user must make effective use Mac Data Recovery utility.

To explain the issue in detail above, imagine a scenario in which the practice of your Mac machine will not start normally, and breaks on the command line environment. In addition, the following error message on the startup screen:

"File system dirty, run fsck"

After the above error message may also display a command line that contains the number sign quickly. Once the error message, the data stored on the hard disk could not be accessed.

Reason:

The error message above appears because of inconsistencies in the file system.

Resolution:

As described in the error message above, run the fsck utility. But if the utility fails to control the error message above and the same error message, so you'll have to perform the following steps:

1.Reinstall system files and restore data from a valid backup.

2.However backup in case of invalid, incomplete or corrupted, use a touch-thirds Mac File Recovery Utility. A tool for data recovery Mac uses secure procedures, but powerful for recovering data after a new Mac reinstall Mac OS X.

Reasons behind data loss on Mac & How to recover lost/deleted data using Mac File Recovery Software?

Data Loss, all of us have faced a data loss situation. The urgency of data recovery depends on the data on Mac, if the data is crucial to us then only we care about the lost data else we forget about it. But, this little bit of ignorance can have disastrous after affects, as the problem may persist in the system and may lead to serious data loss due to volume corruption. Some preventive steps can avoid such problems. But, before we get in to details of resolving mac data loss issues, lets see why it occurs.

Data loss on Mac can occur due to any of the following reasons:
  • Application Crash
  • System Crash
  • Hard Drive Problem

Application Crash: An application running on a system unexpectedly disappears or shuts down, it can be considered as crash. Application crash can be of several types, a times the application quits without a warning, a message will appear stating:

“The application browseback quit unexpectedly”

Once you relaunch the application the data since the last time you saved has gone. There are chances that the file goes corrupt and you lose the data saved earlier.

Another sort of application crash is when an application just stops responding and the mouse might freeze too. In such a case you need to Force Quit the application. Yet another reason why you can lose data on Mac.

How to get rid of application crash:

Download the software update from companies website, for instability issues, they offer free patches. Some times preferences file, associated with the application goes corrupt, to correct those, you can delete the files as well as reset your preferences. You can find the preferences files from the Preferences Folder inside Library folder.

All these steps can help you only rectifying the issue but to recover data a Mac data recovery software will be required as no back up was taken for the lost files.

Mac file recovery from Stellar can recover lost/deleted files. Quick recovery option of the Mac recovery software recovers data from corrupt volume/files.

Steps to Recover Lost Files from Mac Data Recovery Software:
  • Select Drive Recovery Tab from the software
  • Select & Click on “Quick Recovery” option
  • A dialog box will appear listing your volumes on the system
  • Select the volume from which file has to be recovered

  • Click “Recover Button” to recover the file.
  • Save the file to an user defined location

System Crash: Mac freezes and doesn't allow you to interact with any application or shut it down, such a situation can be known as a system crash. If you encounter crashes several times a day. It's a clear indication of some sort of system infection.

It may be due to any of the following reason:

Recent Software Installation: You need to figure out what was the last action you performed before the system began to crash. It may be due to some of the software installation, may be one of the files causing the problem. Read the document for the software and check if they have some solution, if such problem occurs. Another solution can be to regularly back up the data on external hard drive. System crash due to software installation can cause data loss, a Mac data recovery software can help in such a scenario.

Recent Hardware Upgrade: Hardware updates like installing a RAM to the system may be one of the reason. To check if this is the reason for the system crash. Remove the RAM from the system and check if the system crashes or not. Even then if the system crashed you need to check for the recently installed scanner, extra drive or any other device. Disconnect the hardware and turn of its software, now check if the system crashes. Once the problem is being recognized you can get rid of the problem.

Hardware Defect: As any other electronic device there are chances that one or more components in the system fail. This can also be a cause of system crash. If the data is lost, you cannot recover the data, until and unless you have a back up of the data in an external drive or you have a data recovery Mac Software.

It might happen that the system stops responding & won't even boot. Data Recovery Mac can help you recover data in such a scenario. Mac data recovery software comes with a unique feature of Boot DVD, to deal with situations like these.

Hard Drive Problem: Hard drive the most important part of any system and if in case you have a problem in the hard drive then you can imagine the consequences. Any of the above stated reasons can cause problem on the hard drive, not only this bad sectors on the drive, a hard drive continually being used as a storage device can also be one of the reason. As the hard drives are prone to develop localized problems.

Disk Utility on Mac systems can some what help you recover from the hard drive corruption scenarios, but, it will only repair the disk to an extent, that it becomes usable and not recover the lost data on Mac. Disk Utility can be used as preventive maintenance feature for the drive. Disk Utility can't repair the directory errors on a start up drive, you need a system installation DVD for it.

Steps to Repair Start Up Drive using Disk Utility
  • Insert the system installation DVD
  • Shutdown your system, while holding C key
  • Wait for the system to boot
  • Now from the Installer application menu, Open Disk Utility
  • Select the drive you want to repair, once disk utility has started.
  • Click “First Aid” button
  • Choose “Verify Disk” if you want only to check problem
  • Choose “Repair Disk” to check and repair the problem

Once you are done with this all the hard drive issues will be repaired.

How to tackle 'Gray Screen' issue with Mac OS X

When a computer system throws fatal start up errors, it is an indication that there are grave problems associated with the system's hardware or software. Users have nicknamed such error messages as 'screen of deaths'. If you are a Mac OS X user and experience issues like computer not responding or appearance of gray screen instead of seeing the Finder or the login window, you are in for a deep trouble. In such situations, the data stored in the hard drive of your Mac machine becomes totally inaccessible. You might resolve the issue by implementing the troubleshooting steps (discussed later in the article) suggested by Apple, but one or two steps could also raise data loss alarm. If you end up losing data from your Mac machine by employing certain necessary remedial steps, do not worry. You can perform Mac data recovery by using a trusted professional application.

This article gives you details about the basic workarounds in case you come across 'GSOD' (Gray Screen Of Death) along with suggestions to recover lost or deleted data, if need arises. To explain the 'Gray Screen' issue better, let's consider a practical scenario, wherein, you have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.6 installed. You start the Mac machine and receive a Gray Screen of Death.

Here is a list of troubleshooting steps which should be employed to resolve the above-described problem:

Disconnect external devices: External devices, like hard drives, which you connect through a USB or FireWire cable should be disconnected. Try booting the system, if it starts without any problems then try attaching devices one-by-one to locate the problematic device.

Safe Boot: At times, you can eliminate the startup problems by simply booting your system in the Safe Mode.

Reset the NVRAM/PRAM: If you are unable to resolve the gray screen issue, then try resetting the NVRAM (Non-volatile Random Access Memory)and PRAM (Parallel Random Access Memory).

Use Mac OS Installation Disc: Boot your system with the installation disc, go to 'Disk Utility' and perform a repair of your Mac OS X volume to fix issues. As soon as the Disk Utility ends its operations, restart without holding any keys.

Opt for Erase and Install Installation of Mac OS X: If you are unable to get rid off gray screen problem and have exhausted all the possible corrective methods, you must take a backup (use Time Machine)of the data. After taking backup, erase your Mac OS X volume and reinstall Mac OS X.

If the backup doesn't fulfill your Mac file recovery needs, it is better that you switch to a third-party software which would help you in bringing your erased data back.

Among the various Mac data recovery software available today, you must consider using Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery. This do-it-yourself application recovers lost or deleted data from HFS, HFS+, HFS Wrapper, and FAT file system volumes. The Mac file recovery utility supports Macintosh OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.5 Leopard, 10.4 Tiger, and 10.3.9 Panther.

Mac data recovery solution for dealing “Boot Camp error”

Apple has designed the latest versions of Mac OS X operating systems in a way that let you make your system dual-boot Mac. That is, you can install any recent version of Microsoft Windows operating system on your Mac and choose an operating system in boot time. To do this, Apple has launched a special utility called 'Boot Camp', which helps you configure your system as a dual boot system.

However, sometimes the Boot Camp utility in the middle and not the Mac system becomes completely inaccessible. In this case, data loss or inaccessible, may only be able to regain their seemingly lost data through any recovery Mac software
If the process of 'Boot Camp' no, even may not be able to start the computer from the Mac OS X and also find some error messages as follows:

"Disk can not be divided because some files can not be moved.

Backup disk utility disk and use the format as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. "
Also, if you try to remove the Boot Camp volume, then you can also find an error message that reads as follows:

"The startup disk can not be divided or restored to a single partition.

The boot disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows. "
The main reason behind the problem is that there is possible corruption in the file system on your computer caused by the process of Boot Camp.

Steps to resolve the issue:
The error caused by the Boot Camp process is too complex to be managed by Disk Utility. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, one option, that is to format the hard drive and do a fresh install of the operating system.

Format will result in deletion of all data from hard disk and you need a good backup to restore again. However, if you have no good backup, you have to choose a data recovery Mac to recover back the formatted data.

Data recovery utilities for Mac are designed with powerful methods of analysis, you can find all your lost data even from formatted drive and retrieve easily. Moreover, along with its capacity, these programs come with detailed instruction sets that can help you make the recovery process with clarity.

Chronicle of a MAC data recovery [last day]

That's what I thought, so I asked support for a former coworker.
I told him the situation and asked if I had a laptop to connect SATA hard disk macbook.
He said he did not have, but that did not connect the macbook hard drive to my computer if my computer also had sata connection.
...
...
Why not think that before o.o

Well 2 heads are better than one, so surely it could, come to my house, and before talking to the customer and give you false hopes, I opened my computer, unplug my drive and connect the disk of the macbook.
Bootee with HBCD (Hiren Boot CD) and to enter into the HDD Regenerator (HDDR), there was, well recognized hard disk.
Then I ran the HDDR and order to begin the hard disk sector 0.
began with the scan did not pass or 2 seconds when it showed bad sectors, but also and was repairing :-)
I left work while I went to dinner.
I went to dinner, come back and had nothing advanced, was too slow, you have previously used the HDDR, and if it was slow, but this time was too slow.
Leave it longer, I leaned back and watched some TV.
Time passed and the HDDR still fixing bugs.
Leave it as 1 hour and a half and only had the .2%, 1% No, no, took the .2%!
That was bad ... Very little was reached to restore, but I was anxious, and 3 days with a problem that only got close to resolve and ended scratching my head by stress.
I could not wait any longer, the disc will not hesitate even 1%
Bootee with the Ubuntu disc normally (even mac disk in my computer), there was the error of too many bad sectors.
Try to access the hard disk and more rapidly and have the folders, that was a good sign, to reach the user's documents were appearing with "crosses" in the folders.
The issue of permits had not solved, I turned to look at Google, to enter as root in graphic mode and I finally found how.
the command itself is:

Sudo nautilus

With this command will open a window until you leave that window you can do and undo whatever you want to root.
Now with that window open, I went back to the hard disk and no longer featured the "Cross" Excellent!
I'm excited! talk to the customer to come and tell me which files need to be supported.
Before he arrived connect an external CD rom to my computer because it only has 2 SATA connectors
Connect the USB CD ROM, plug my hard drive with SATA and connect the Macbook's hard drive using SATA.
I get the client and begin to back up files without a problem.

This all might resolve the issue but if in case the problem persists you have to consult the experts you should use Mac data recovery software

How to recover data from Mac hard drive if Mac hard drive is dead?

Yes, a Mac Hard drive can become dead and if such a case happens have you ever thought of, what will happen to the data there on the hard drive. I faced such an issue and tried to find out the solution to the problem what I found out was that the data solution to the problem is really easy. The is recoverable even if the Mac Hard Drive becomes dead.

Mac Hard drive becomes dead when the it's own operating system no longer integrates with the OS X Operating system which is driving the computer. There is a built in Mac utility to help you recover the data, what you require is another Mac for it.

The procedure to recover that data from a dead Mac Hard drive is known as "Target Mode”, What is required is both the Mac computer should have a Firewire port, and a firewall cable is also required.

Now as we have all the essentials for the data recovery process lets start the recovery process.

  • Keep both the Mac, one with the dead hard drive and other Mac beside. Remove all the cables from the Mac that has the dead hard drive.

  • Now reattach all the cables to the dead hard drive Mac and plug in the system.

  • Now turn on the second Mac, wait for the desktop to appear, Take the firewall cable and connect the cable to each of the Mac's firewire input.

  • Now you need to turn on the Mac that has the dead hard drive, what you need to take care while turning it on is that you hold the “T” key, and keep it holding.

  • You only need to release the “T” key when you see a dead hard drive icon on the second Mac.

  • Now as you see the icon on of the dead hard drive on the second Mac you need to double click the icon to open it's window. Now drag all the data you can see in the window to the desktop, this may take minutes to hours depending on your data on the drive.

  • Once the data is being copied move the dead hard drive icon to trash, now press the power button of the Mac that has the dead hard drive till the time you are sure that the system has shut down.

  • Now disconnect all the cables from both the Mac PC and rearrange all the cables you will see that the data has been recovered.

So as I told that the data recovery process is really easy after a hard drive is dead on Mac. But, if in case you don't have a second Mac or if in case the things didn't go as per the plan then, will the data be still recoverable?

Yes, why not, in such a case Mac data recovery software can come to the rescue, just make sure that you go for a mac recovery software that has the option of a BOOT CD. You will just then need to start the PC and insert the data recovery BOOT CD to the system and the rest will be done by the software.

Your crucial data can get lost due to Finder Error 36, save it now!

All of the Mac user might be aware of the finder in Mac OS X, it manages the files on the hard disk, application launch and network mapping. We can consider that it plays an integral part in Mac OS X. If the finder gets corrupt in that case you might loose the data. The factors those are involved in Finder corruption are, system up gradation or its data structure corruption. To rectify or to recover Mac data in such situations either the restoration can help or the Mac data recovery software can recover the data. You can easily know that the finder has gone corrupt if the data of the finder becomes inaccessible or unmountable if any of these things are bothering you should consider it as the finder corruption. Also if you are copy pasting the data and encounter error “The finder can't complete the operation because some data can not be read or written. Error Code - 36"
This also indicates corrupt Finder

Finder is quite important in Mac, it help you perform general operations. When, Mac boots up it interacts with the Finder. It’s just because of the finder that you get the GUI to use in Mac, to manipulate things and to drag and drop items to the trash and other drives.

You might be interested in knowing the fact due to which the finder gets corrupt the major causes, apart from those mentioned above, are, Upgrading the OS, virus infection, OS malfunctioning, improper shut down. To resolve the issue or recover the lost or corrupt data from the hard drive, what we can do is

• Open the terminal using Application>>Utilities
• Type the command “dot_clean “ remember there is a space in the command
• Select the folder that is causing the error
• Drag the folder to the terminal
• Before you leave the mouse make sure that a green cursor with “a +” symbol appears
• You will then see the correct path to the trouble folder appears itself where the terminal command ends
• Press enter
• It will look like nothing ahs happened but the you need to copy the folder to the MS-DOS now
• You will find the finder will allow you to copy the folder
• Repeat it for all the problem folders. This is basically Snow Leopard bug nothing else

Else if data lost we can use the Disk Utility to recover the data. If the data is not recovered using the disk utility then reinstall Mac OS X and go for restoring the backup you would have created for situations like these. Even after then if the data is not recovered, it might be because of any reason due to back up corruption or no backup available, then the only solution left is to go for the third party data recovery Mac software.

How to Recover Mac Data Lost Due to Kernel Bugs in Mac OS X

Mac OS X is a Unix-based operating system, which supports a number of data structures that are used in Unix operating system and Kernel is one among them. Kernel is the core component of Mac OS X operating system that is stored at protected area of hard drive. Kernel offers a number of advanced system services, such as file management, process management, memory management, and Input/Output management. However, in some situations the Kernel may become unresponsive and your system does not boot up. This behavior leads to data loss and put you in need of Mac data recovery solutions.

It is essential for a Mac OS X system to have a valid and intact Kernel to work properly. When Kernel fails to load, your system shows weired symptoms. To illustrate this problem with Mac OS X 10.5 Snow Leopard operating system, you may encounter gray screen with Apple logo. The system freezes at boot up and boot process does not complete. You may also see a spinning wheel at the same time, which is also called beach ball of death.

Root of the problem

There are various reasons of this problem, which may include the following ones-
You encounter unexpected system shutdown that has made directory structure unstable. In such situations, Mac OS X operating system can not read the directory structure and thus data becomes inaccessible.
You startup Mac OS X volume is either unreadable or damaged.
Directory check can not be completed.
PRAM/NVRAM are affected by boot-args issues.
File system or Mac OS X Kernel are damaged.

Resolution
Try below Mac recovery solutions to work around this issue-
Boot your system using Mac OS X instillation disk and attest to repair the startup disk. Reinstall Mac OS X operating system and restore data from backup, if required.
Reset PRAM/NVRAM.

Wait until your system completes disk directory structure checking.
Format your hard drive and reinstall operating system. After formatting the disk, restore data from the most recent backup as formatting removes all the files and directories from hard drive.

When all else fails, use third-party Mac file recovery software to recover your valuable data from the hard drive.

The commercial applications let you perform data recovery Mac in most of the data loss situations. They are totally safe with read-only and non-destrutive conduct.

Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac users announced

Microsoft has recently announced that the they are about to launch Microsoft office 2011 for the Mac users, in the Mac expo. Even after the lack of details about Microsoft office 2011 there was a huge but positive buzz among the people. Most of the people like me were worried about the outlook competence of the Office 2011, I was relieved when I came to know that they have also announced email compatibility, which will support .PST files too. Predicted launch of the office is, by the start of the holiday season of 2010.

The main motto behind the launch of the office was something beyond the compatibility factor, they wanted to make sure that the presentations , documents, spreadsheets created by the Mac users on one platform should work efficiently on other platform. As, Microsoft Mac team knows that only few of the mac users use Windows.

Why am I too excited about the Office 2011 is because of the features, such as:

a) It will be possible for the Mac users to collaborate, share files and documents with other Mac and Windows users, using the office web app and share point.

b) As in Google docs you can share the file with others, same feature will be there in the new office. You just need to create a word file on your laptop and share files with others. You just need to right click and a pop up will show you all the people currently working on the document, you can now send message to all of the them.

c) The newly designed ribbon is even more easy to use, it takes advantage of Apple’s Core Animation system. Rearranging the tabs becomes more smother due to this. If clicked on any tab it expands into popovers and won't effect the document you are working on.

d) Outlook in office 2011, provides you with the facility to install your old emails from windows on to Mac. It also supports the IRM( Information Right Management), which allows the sender the option to make discretion among the receivers of the mail and set the access rights for them. This feature is embedded keeping the cross platform Mac users in mind.

These are only few of the feature which had created a huge buzz around, there are too many others to be unleashed yet. I think they would have really worked hard on data security too. But, I can't understand, how the data recovery software companies will cope up with it, as I've heard of mac data recovery software, windows data recovery software, mac file recovery software, file recovery software for windows, Pst recovery for windows, but will it be possible to make a data recovery software to cope up with both the windows and the Mac Operating systems at a time? Till the time Office 2011 is not released questions like these and many others will keep on arising, what we can do is just wait till the years end

How to recover deleted files from Trash on Mac?

It happens a lot of time that data gets deleted from the system and in the worst case it will even remove from the trash. I have faced this situation a lot of time, so in spite of loosing the data I found out the solution to it.

Firstly lets see what happens once we delete the data from the system. When ever we delete the data it does not get deleted but the data is moved from the directory and stored else where that's the reason we are not able to locate the data on the current location we have deleted data from.

The different location where the data gets stored is different for every operating system, like if you are a Mac user it gets stored in Trash, If you are Windows user it gets stored in the Recycle bin and if you are a Linux user than the data gets stored in the KDE that's the waste bin. So the first step should be to look, for these places once you've deleted the data.

As I've talked about the worst case scenario that means you deleted the data from the waste bin too then also the data is not deleted. The data then also is recoverable. The data remains in the system till the time the data is not made available for another set of data to get stored in the system. So there is no need to worry about the data just the right steps to follow to get the data back.

The data can be recovered from the system. The operating system not right away allocates the free space to the other data, you can undelete the data for a considerable amount of time. The case in which the data recovery is next to impossible is if you have recently de-fragmented the hard drive. What happens in this case is all the free space is being utilized or defragmented so the free space made recently is made available for the data to get stored.

Another situation when there are chances of the data not getting recovered is, if the hard drive is full in this case also as the free space is not available, so as soon as the operating system finds the free space it allocates it to the new data and your deleted data gets overwritten.

For situation like these when the data recovery is next to impossible Mac data recovery software is there and these software claim the recovery of the data. The process is quite simple just in five steps the data will be recovered.
