CustomBeast Now Available for NVIDIA 4xx Graphics Cards + USB 3.0 Support

CustomBeast is now available for NVIDIA 4xx graphics cards!  Supported specs now include any Gigabyte H55, P55, or X58 motherboard with any NVIDIA graphics card.

In other news we have made some changes to CustomBeast.  During our testing we have found that the MacPro3,1 smbios.plist provides the best performance.  Because of this, we are removing the option for System Identification.  As an added bonus, we will now be including USB 3.0 drivers for supported motherboards.

MultiBeast 3.0 Update

Today MultiBeast was updated to version 3.0.  We've made quite a few structural changes, including enabling all choices, so no options are greyed out.  The downside to this is you can now choose to install everything within a category.  Only check the top level choice and the specific sub-choice options.  Checking the category, or root option will most likely corrupt your installation by installing unwanted or unneeded options.

Please do not upload or redistribute MultiBeast to any other sites.
Full list of changes:
  • Restructured menus: Advanced Options now separated into Drivers & Bootloaders and Customization.
  • Updated Chameleon 2.0 RC5 - Prerelease to r668.
  • Updated Chameleon 2.0 RC5 - ATI Experimental to r679.
  • Updated Chameleon post install script to correctly install on a dual boot system.
  • Added tonymacx86 theme Remixed by complx to Themes.
  • Changed EasyBeast and UserDSDT to install tonymacx86 theme Remixed by complx.
  • Removed all CPU-specific smbios.plist definitions.
  • Removed Chameleon 2.0 RC4 by AsereBLN 1.1.9
  • Replaced all Legacy88xHDA kexts with the new unified ALC8xxHDA kext.
  • Replaced LegacyAppleRTC with ElliottForceLegacyRTC for 32/64 bit support.
  • Updated EasyBeast and UserDSDT to use Chameleon 2.0 RC5 - Prerelease.
  • Updated EasyBeast to use ElliottForceLegacyRTC instead of LegacyAppleRTC
  • Added iMac11,2 and iMac11,3 System Definitions

Updated NVIDIA Drivers for Mac OS X: Install Guide and iBoot-GE

This week, NVIDIA released drivers for their line of "Fermi" cards for Mac OS X.  Besides supporting their new flagship Quadro 4000, these drivers support the GeForce GT 430, GTS 450, GTX 460, GTX 465, GTX 470, GTX 480. They also show increased OpenGL, Quartz Graphics, and User Interface performance for NVIDIA 2xx cards.

To use the new drivers on any system, we made an alternate installer, tonymacx86 NVIDIA Update, that overcomes the official installer's system limitations.  We also created iBoot-GE, a new variation of iBoot that uses Chameleon's GraphicsEnabler instead of enabler kexts.  Finally, we've updated MultiBeast to include the necessary bootloader.
    • iBoot-GE uses Chameleon's GraphicsEnabler, with updated device IDs for new NVIDIA cards.  Update: iBoot now works for NVIDIA 4xx cards- you may need to type -x PCIRootUID=1 to install using these cards
      • MultiBeast now contains Chameleon 2.0 RC5 Prerelease which includes device IDs for all new NVIDIA cards.
      Guide for a Fresh Installation
If you're starting from scratch, follow iBoot + MultiBeast.
      1. Install using iBoot
      2. Install latest Combo Update

      Guide for an Existing Installation
If you've already installed and configured your system to boot from hard drive

      KextBeast: Simple Kext Installer

Introducing KextBeast!  MacMan and I made this quick little package to help us test various drivers, and we thought it would help you all as well.  It's a simple installer for any .kext, .plugin, or .bundle files.  It will also do multiple files at once and rebuild caches.

For now, it only works for files that are meant to be installed in /System/Library/Extensions, such as network, graphics, and some audio drivers.

      How it works:

       1. Place files on desktop.
       2. Run KextBeast
       3. Reboot

      CustomBeast: Simple Personalized Post-Installation Solution

CustomBeast is an all-in-one personalized post-installation solution.  It is designed for users who want their system up and running quickly with minimal effort and maximum performance.  With a simple click-through interface, CustomBeast will enable boot from hard drive, graphics, sound, network, and configuration optimization through installation of the proper boot loader, DSDT and kexts.

You can be assured that your CustomBeast is tailor-made for your system, as the software is built to order.  Verified and tested to make sure that any post-install headaches are minimized.  It's your own personalized app to use any time you install.

For now, CustomBeast is limited to Gigabyte H55, P55, or X58 motherboards with NVIDIA graphics.  We want to make sure we can deliver a working system.  CustomBeast delivers the same DSDTs available through the DSDT Database, and does not install any CPU-specific or graphics information in your DSDT.  CustomBeast does not deliver support for wireless cards and adapters.  As drivers become available, and reliable solutions appear, we will consider including a wider variety of systems and components.  Of course, it takes time and effort to build these installers from the ground up.  A contribution to the CustomBeast Project is required.

      Multibeast 2.0

Today, Multibeast 2.0 is released.  There are many new features and improvements that will make the new version more efficient and easier to use than ever before.  Some of the many improvements include the 10.3.1 Supported Kernel for most Core i3/i5/i7s, USB 2.0 support for non-DSDT users, and more predefined smbios hardware description options.  In addition, audio compatibility has been greatly improved by adding 10.6.2 AppleHDA Rollback by default for non-889a LegacyHDA options, as well as including the latest VoodooHDA 0.2.61.  Finally, Chameleon installation scripts have been perfected for multiple Operating System booting.

With Gigabyte's many BIOS upgrades and additions, it's been difficult to keep MultiBeast current.  GigaBeast, the all-in-one installation solution for Gigabyte P55 motherboards, has been removed in order to prevent the tool from being constantly outdated.  The good news is that the functionality is still available using UserDSDT, with the added ability to customize your installation to your preferences, not ours.

For a full installation method, check out iBoot + MultiBeast: Install Mac OS X on any Intel-based PC.  Good luck, and let us know how the new version works for you!

      Chameleon RC5 Prerelease Installer Package

EDIT: Latest Chameleon 2.0 RC5 version in MultiBeast.

As Chameleon 2.0 development continues, new updates are being pushed out almost every day. Among other code corrections and bug fixes, the latest versions have eliminated the need for Restart and PlatformUUID kexts. Realistically, if you're unfamiliar with the Terminal, compiling the latest source or installing Chameleon manually may not be an option.

To that end, I've created an unofficial Chameleon 2.0 RC5 Prerelease 6 Installer based on Rekursor's latest Chameleon development branch.

Also created an unofficial Chameleon 2.0 RC4 Installer based on AsereBLN's 1.1.9 RC4 mods. This particular installer doesn't have an embedded theme. In order to get a graphical user interface, you'll have to drop this Themes folder to your Extra folder.

Both of these are regular OS X installer packages that will replace your Chameleon version. They also will install the full Chameleon bootloader on a fresh OS X install, replacing any older Chameleon installer (such as the PC EFI 10.1 app). Note that you'll have to move your DSDT to the /Extra folder, as this is the new default location for RC4.
Please note that these are unofficial releases, and any issues related should not be submitted to the Chameleon team. I'll keep this post and package updated with the latest versions as they come out. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Good luck, and see you on the forum!
