How to fix black screen on startup on your mac book pro?

Long back I've written some thing about Mac I researched a lot on the most talked about problem of the Mac users and I found out that most of the Mac users are facing the problem of black screen at the time of start up.

Most of the time such a problem occurs when we leave our Mac book untouched for a longer duration of time. Its not a regular feature. What I found out, as per my research was, the main cause of such a problem to occur is of corrupted sleep image.

The procedure I followed to delete the corrupted sleep image is:

1)I started my mac in target disk mode.
2)Connected another working Mac via fire wire.
3)Upon starting the working Mac, started the effected Mac book pro too
4)While the effected mac is starting up hold on to the “T” key
5)You will find a external hard drive in the finder
6)Next step is to open the finder in the working mac book pro
7)You will see the effected mac book pro name in the finder
8)Then simultaneously press CMD+Shift+G
9)Type /volumes/name of effected computer/private/var/vm/
10)Delete the sleep image from there
11)Empty Trash.
12)Eject the effected mac
13)Remove the fire wire cable

If every thing goes as per the plan your mac book pro will work fine. But, the most important thing which I would like to mention is to back up your data as soon as the systems starts working fine. Another most important thing is to disable the sleep mode via preference pane, which I forgot to do and lost the data when I was trying to recover from the same problem again. I had to buy a third party mac data recovery software to recover the data.

How to resolve black screen issue on boot up in Ubuntu 10.4?

The latest version of Ubuntu has been reviewed fine, the graphics the interface every thing is really cool and you can't resist using it. It really got a positive response from the users. But as the days passing by people have installed it on to their system and facing the issue of black screen on boot up.

Ubuntu is showing black screen in two scenarios, it is not an issue related to the data loss as it goes blank just after grub, it's not because of the corrupt files it's because of some incorrect default settings. You can relax …, I know you are smart enough to backup your data first before trying any new OS on your system, you won't play on your data, else if not backed up the data Linux data recovery can help you recover data, if the data is lost.

We got a bit wayward! Lets concentrate on the issue. Black screen can be found under two scenarios

1)If you install Ubuntu 10.4 then you may face this problem.

• a) The screen goes blank just after grub then you need to press “e” to get to the boot loader.
• b) If in case you are not able to reach to the grub then press shit and hold on to it.
• c) You will find a line which says “quiet and splash” replace it with “nomodeset'.
• d) Next step is to boot the system, press Ctrl + X to boot.
• e) Login to Ubuntu

It might happen with some that removing quiet and slash will give rise to another problem that is you might not see splash. In that case you just need to replace “quiet” and let the “splash” be there as before. It will resolve the other issue too.

2)If you've upgraded from Ubuntu9.10 to 10.4 for this issue still the research is on and I will definitely let you know once I found the resolution to the problem. What I will recommend in this case is to fresh install Ubuntu 10.4 to get rid of such issue till the time resolution is not found. I referred Ubuntu forums too to get the problem solved but couldn't get any kind of answer.

When your computer doesn't start or starts making noises that you have never heard before it can be troubling and leave you with no idea what to do to get your computer working again. If you relax and work through the problem systematically you can often resolve the problem in short order. More important than fixing the computer fast is to find out what the problem is and is not.


1).Restart your computer and listen carefully. Your monitor does not beep. If it sounds like your monitor is beeping, it is either speakers connected to the monitor or it is coming directly from the computer.
2).Check and make sure your monitor is fully connected to the computer and that it is plugged in. Try plugging the monitor as well as the computer into another outlet. Some beeping from your computer is normal but it may be confusing if you are not seeing video.
3).Open up the case on the computer by removing one of the side door panels. The side panel door is usually connected by two or more Phillips screws. Take out and reinstall the video card, memory and the processor, this is especially important if you have recently changed any of these pieces of hardware. Any one of these loose connections can prevent video from showing up and cause beep sounds that alert there is a problem.
4).Replace, the video card if nothing else works. You may have to replace, the memory, motherboard or CPU if nothing else works. Some piece of hardware is bad and it's just a matter of a process of elimination.
